ChikenChik
Chirping
So I have this sweet 5 month old hen. Her name is Dixie Chick. She was named by my 4 year old. She is my ONLY Cuckoo Maran hen(He really wanted zebra chickens)...the other two of the 3 I bought ended up being roosters...yep they were supposed to be all pullets but you know how it goes. I tell you all this because I want you to understand my dilemma at this point. About a month ago she just stopped walking. She was hiding under the coop and I figured my 2 stupid roosters had just scared her too much to come out. The are....were...A-holes. They constantly jumped on my younger girls and ya know...did what roosters do. So I separated her but realized she wasn't walking at all. I researched and saw all kinds of info about Mereks...brain injuries, Vitamin deficiencies, etc. She had been vaccinated as a chick so I decided to see what happened. But a month later after lots of treatments for everything I found really isn't getting better. She is skinny and doesn't eat or drink unless I really stick it in her face. I feel now it may be in her interest to just put her down. I know when it starts getting cold she won't survive outside without other chickens to keep her warm and I don't really have a place to keep her inside....plus I don't think her life is really all that great at this point. I can't put her in the coop cuz chickens have a pecking order and mine are pretty violent at times. so I guess I am looking for anyone that has ever had a chicken recover from something like this, She walks only if she is forced to and then it is on her forelegs. She stands and puts her beak to the ground or in the cage and if i move her she will wobble/flap her way for a few feet. She does manage to stay out of the sun if I put her out in the yard but she won't move to get food or water. Any advice?
