hello I have 3 black austrolorp chicks they are 4 and a half weeks old and I was wondering when I can start giving them chick grower or regulate chicken feed because they are still on chick starter.plz help

You can feed them chick starter for their entire lifetimes. The only feed that is age/gender specific is layer feed and should only be fed if all birds in the flock are actively laying. You can switch to grower or a flock raiser feed at any time. They do need to have access to feed all day long though.

Any time. What do the instructions on the bag say? Each manufacturer has a line of feeds that are intended for various ages. While it's best to follow the manufacturers feeding recommendations, basically baby chicks need between 18 and 22% protein. After 4 to 6 weeks you can cut back to 18%. 14-18 weeks, 15% may be sufficient. That's when many start layer feed.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Chicks are generally switched from starter feed to grower feed at 8 weeks. There is a good article at http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/11/feeding-chickens-at-different-ages.html on feeding chickens at different ages that should answer any questions you may have about feeding your chickens. :o) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your BAs.

Hi everyone,
I'm new to BYC!!
The type of feed differs very little. The key is to give the initial feed: A-104 and then move to A-115. And as mentioned in a previous review (reply) only give the layer feed if all birds in the flock are actively laying (A-120).

Note: the numbered version, example A-115 is European. There sub-categories but mostly is not available to small consumers, ex. such as:
A-121 or A-122

[English is not my 1st language. Sorry for any spelling errors!]
