So today when I went to go check on my hens I noticed my Brown leghorn was acting a little strange. I thought it may have been because she was getting ready to lay for the day, so I fed watered and gathered the eggs already in the boxes and went about my day. Well I just went to let them out for the evening and she didn't come out and normally she is like lightning flying out of there so I looked in the coop and she wasn't in there. I went around back to the run to find her sitting on the ground with a pale waddle and comb. I looked her over and no sign of injury. And then I remembered she hadn't laid yet today so I felt her bottom and it feels like the egg is still in there. What should I do?

Thanks in advance Lee.

I have read a lot of people say to do a warm water bath soak and lubricate the vent area with oil to aid the egg's passage. I haven't dealt with this myself but these are some search terms for you if you want to search BYC or the web while waiting for more responses.

Well she's gone She died while in my hands while I was soaking her. So I oiled my finger and probed inside her the egg was right at the vent but it was outside her laying tract so I think she laid internally. thanks for the help anyways guys.

So sorry for your loss.
