Ok we have combo breeds and I have been hatching chicks and was wondering what age I should butcher the Roos at ?whats the best feed for meat birds ?how do i process them efficiently I've killed and dressed a chicken when I was a kid but don't remember all the proper steps ?after they are processed how long should they rest or should they go right into the freezer? And any other info you can think of?

I like to do my barnyard-mix roosters at about 4 months old. They are still tender, but have enough meat on their bones to make it worthwhile. OTOH, if the little punks start making a nuisance of themselves, I will do it earlier. They still are worth eating.

I rest my birds until I can move the legs without moving the whole bird before I freeze them. Others freeze immediately and let the bird rest while it is defrosting.
