i need some advice. false sense of security

If they're available for the taking, just about ANY predator will grab them in the middle of the night.

Since chickens cannot see in the dark, they're easy targets and will not put up much of a struggle.

I'm sorry for your loss.

I had a family emergency and forgot to shut the door. What takes them without a sign? I have read that dogs leave it like a massacre. Racoons and possums eat them where they catch them. I am mink just leave the body. Does a fox take that many within hrs ?

Are you sure your chickens aren't just out free-ranging? My hens will put themselves up and if the door isn't shut, they'll let themselves out the next morning.

yes, gone without a feather......they have been gone for about a week now. Still trying to figure out how that could happen......would a fox take that many in one night ?

If I understand correctly, there's one door between your chickens and the outside? Please correct me if I'm wrong on that assumption. I'm guessing something got in, scared them, and they ran and scattered. They have probably been picked off by predators one-by-one since then.
