One of my chickens was leaning to it's right side and couldn't keep her balance. I think she might have hurt her left leg, but I checked and didn't see any injury. Her leg isn't swollen, but she can't walk with her left leg or she falls over.
All the videos I've seen are where bones are actually broken, or just hang, etc.... How can I tell if she might have hurt her "hip area" and if so, what can I do to try to fix it? I put her in a separate small coop with her water and food, but she just lays there. Sometimes she has the left leg fully extended out to the side and sometimes she has it tucked under her like normal.
Also, I have a duck that I don't know what to do for. I saw an egg right at her vent, she had a long "string" (I guess the umbilical cord) coming out and she was leaking fluid when I picked her up. I put her in a sink with warm water and then in her pool and she just stayed in there for quite a while. White stuff was coming out of her in the water and also some blood but now I can't see the egg. I don't know if she laid it or if it's stuck inside. How can I tell??
Today was not a great day for my "kids".... or me....
I thank you in advance for any information any of you can give me.

Is she vaccinated for Mareks?
What is her diet? Brand and type?
It's likely wry neck,a vitamin deficiency.

Birds don't have umbilical cords like that only mammals do. It's likely a yolk follicle or membrane. Possibly she has an egg broke inside her. You may need to check.

No vaccinations. She gets a good diet. Oats, peas, chicken feed of course, scratch, milo, etc.
She's a year old. If it is wry neck, would that also cause her to not use her one leg? When I went to pick her up, she ran on both legs for a bit and then toppled over to her side when she stopped.

Cut out everything but the chicken feed, the rest are fillers that take away from her getting enough formulated feed. They're great treats for once or twice a week, about a tablespoon per bird. Vitamin deficiency can affect Balance and coordination. Check her pupils to make sure they're the same and normal. To treat vitamin deficiency, give her one 400 i.u vitamin E gel cap and about one half of a people b complex tablet a day for a few weeks. Just pull down her wattles to open her beak, place the pill and shut her beak. She'll swallow it.
I think the duck has a follicle issue, it usually resolves itself ones it's expelled.

I have about 100 hens. Everyone else is doing fine. Would it only affect the one??

I have not personally had experience with this, but it does also sound to me like it could be a broken egg inside her with the leaking fluid. Could you tell if the egg you saw had a shell? I watched one of my ducks lay a shelless egg once and noticed a hanging "string" right before she laid it.

There may be some other threads on the topic that could be helpful. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/duck-with-broken-egg-inside-of-her.1452440/

It looked like it was a shell right there. Hopefully she will be fine in the morning when I check her. The string and the white stuff, which I am guessing is the white of the egg, was coming out this morning. I was concerned when I saw the fluid with some blood in it.

It could, some birds are prone to it.
@ruthhope
I have no experience of chickens and only limited experience with female laying ducks. If the duck has an egg stuck inside, she needs calcium gluconate urgently. 1ml by mouth every day until she starts laying normal eggs again. If she is eating, then 1ml soaked into mealworms or another treat and watch her eat them all. if she is not eating, use a small plastic syringe [no needle] and slwly and gently squirt 1 ml calcium gluconate into the side of her mouth behind her open bill.

I will get some in the morning and try it. Thanks!
