so I have this shed its an 8 x 8 in my back yard that i am wanting to turn into a coop this weekend, i should add that i live in satsuma FL i plan on cutting out a vent above the door, and a window and vent on both sides, and the back side and plan on make a chicken door on the side where there is the three sided area. what im not sure about is the three sided area i could leave it for extra shaded spot, take down the nasty carpet and tarp the top or take it down, i plan to make a run to the side of it so i could fence out a little bit to included but i would have to walk in the actual fence to get in the coop. suggestion would be great. also any suggestions about what to do with the inside is awesomely appreciated

Is that a metal roof? If so, it might get really hot inside in the summer.

Make sure to make it really secure against predators- no gaps bigger than 2" x 2" (and even tighter if you have snakes or weasels in your neighborhood), use hardware cloth (the welded wire mesh, search here for recommendations on places with low prices or look for sales) to cover openings- that allows ventilation and keeps the bad guys out.

Your shed has lots of potential.

yes it is metal, but there is a big trees right above it shading it from the sun. i will diff cover all openings with wire mesh. im thinking with the florida heat of maybe using some fans in the summer? hubby says we can run electric there.

maybe place the run off to the right side and install or cut a doggy door size hole install a gate in the side yard in case you have to get in the yard and that should free up the main door for entrance and exit however you still have the chance for escape.

We use water bottles with small holes drilled in them and place mothballs inside and hang them every ten feet around our pens to detour our friendly Florida snakes.

thanks for the tip i will diff do that since i already found this in my yard the other day right near where the chickens are gonna be

also im not too too worried about escaping since our whole yard is fenced in as well
