Just worried about killing a potential baby, kwim?

I did candle them the other day.. one looks like it was never anything, the other two definitely look like at some point there was something happening but i am really unsure if that is the case anymore.. it's been a week sine the one duckling hatched and we lost one of her others..

It's time to pull the plug, right? argh.. i have such anxiety over this lol.. would posting pics of the eggs be helpful?

I doubt posting pics would help us decide if there is a duckling inside, when my mama duck had the 4 left in her nest about 2 days after last duckling hatched. I went and picked them each up and gently turned them around in my hand up to my ear and i heard sloshing, that let me know they weren't any good. I then cracked open to see if there was anything that had started but quit. Only one looked like it had but the other 3 were duds. maybe this will help you determine. Other than one exploding you may just have to make the decision to throw or open.

When I checked them the other day, there was no sloshing sound.. i guess i am just terrified of opening to find a dead baby

If she has left the nest then I would just bury them, I had to do this way back 5 years ago when my Muscovy hen hatched out the gosling and left her eggs to take care of him, I did not open i just buried. I know it is hard.

Ok.. yeah... sigh.. must do something this morning.. dragging my feet can't you tell? lol

On a secondary note since you have BTDT , do hens toss out an egg? Lilly tossed one out the other day NO one was in the barn but i got the pleasure of a broken egg with a dead embryo duckling... she had more than a dozen eggs when she started to sit end of April now done to half a dozen.

I haven't seen my muscovies do this but chickens will, don't ask how they know but they do.mine only get a small number of eggs to begin with. I was surprised that out of 8 eggs only 4 were good. So when is next due date? I have one Ruthann who is due to hatch this coming Thurs. the 17th. she is only on 5 eggs. I think also if you had come out later when the flock was there you would not have found that broken egg with duckling, they would have cleaned it up. keeps preds from smelling them out.

End of the month... she started to sit April 22.. (yes I wrote this down, trust me my memory is not that fantastic lol) Seems all my hens have done this.. Dusty my new mum had many more eggs than the less than handful she had when junior hatched.
