New to turkeys.
What is poult?
Is there a list somewhere that I can read to learn all the turkey talk.

I recently bought 3 Burbon Red Turkeys and
bought 2 traditional brown turkeys but forgot what you call the brown ones (with some white color feathers too)
They are all young. The 3 BR are a little older than the brown ones. The brown ones are about 12 weeks old.
The BR are about 16 weeks old

Do turkeys have to be kept separate from chickens? If they do, can they be next door to each other?

How old do turkey hens? have to be before they start laying eggs? Do they lay in the winter?

Thanks for helping out a turkey dummy.

A poult is a turkey chick.

Once it has fully feathered out it is either a jake (young male) or a jenny (young female).

Your hens should begin to lay next spring sometime. Exactly when depends on your region and your turkey breed. My Midget Whites here in Florida usually start in March. Generally they are seasonal layers meaning they won't ordinarily lay the year around, but some folks do seem to have birds that do. At least a little anyway. Mine usually begin to peter out in September/October.

They can be brooded and raised together if it's not too crowded. You would do well though to familiarize yourself with the blackhead disease that can sometimes occur in turkeys which can be spread to them through chickens who can carry it but won't show symptoms. It does not seem to occur in all areas though so you may never see it.
