I was supposed to have a deal with a local rabbitry for me to sell their rabbits on commission. The guy tried it one day and then stopped setting up at my shop. I called him a couple days later telling him I had people asking about his rabbits wanting to buy them. His wife said she would relay the message and they never called me back. It has been going on close to two months by this time and I bought a rex cross to breed to my doe I was given by the rabbitry owner.

As the time went by he had a bunch of bunnies and no buyers. The heat started getting some of them so he started butchering them yesterday and half way through he quit. After a year of raising and butchering them he quit. He came by the shop and told me he couldn't handle killing them anymore and told me he was giving me all the survivors. I quickly accepted and went to claim all 12. Upon arriving I was glad I accepted seeing the rabbits were a nice mix of different breeds.

Breeds:
1 California doe
1 possible New Zealand Buck
1 possible New Zealand Doe and her
2 kits
1 Dutch mix Doe and her
2 mix kits
2 Hotot crossed bunnies
1 mystery rabbit

I also bought out all his equipment for $50 which was:

A 4 section 7 x 10 hutch
2 cages
Transport cage
Nest box
4 hopper feeders
7 to 8 water bottles
5 gallon bucket 1/4 full of feed

All of this plus the free hutch I got 2 weeks ago and the doe he gave me as payment for trying to sell his bunnies the couple months back and my rex cross buck I have all I need to start my rabbitry. I have plenty of feed since my orginal rabbits have a nearly full bag of feed. I just need to find a california buck.

I did recieve this mystery rabbit as well and John said it was as far as he could remember when he bought it was a dwarf something. It looked cute at his house but, once I got it home and had a good look the thing creeps me out a little as it has huge eyes that seem to bug out now and then when it looks scared or investigating something in her cage. I would appreciate it if someone can tell me what she is. I was thinking Netherland Dwarf.

Here is the bug eye thing though it looks even more "buggy" than this in person.

Nice. You are now a rabbit farmer or just a rabbit lover?

I'm not going to let my wife see this post. She wants more bun buns but
she refuses to eat them.

Oh, she is so pretty! I agree, she looks like a Netherland Dwarf. The coloring is called Himilayan. ND's are wonderful rabbits. I have one and she has a great personality. I also have Mini Rex and Lionhead. I Love them all!!

A little of both. I will keep the hotot and dutch crosses for pets and sell the buns as pets. I plan to breed the New Zealand blacks and later get a male californian for meat rabbits. Can't resist it rabbit just tastes so good!

Thanks, that was what I was leaning towards her being. I will be finding her buck then now I know what she is. I've kept rabbits years back and had californians, Black New Z's, Lops and a small Himilayan buck. I never had much luck with that first batch but look forward to these as they are proven breeders. I want to get some lops and I've seen lionheads for sale which I plan to buy as well.

It sure looks like a Netherland Dwarf to me. They are the smallest breed of rabbit, and have short ears, and come in lots of differant colors. Thats my guess any how.
