I picked up some Pekin ducklings!! PICS

I just have to break the news to the hubby.

I found a local that breeds Pekin and owns a feed store. He has about 15 now. I was going back in forth between ordering from Metzer Farms (who I LOVE) or finding local because I didn't really want 10 (and it costs the same to get 5).

I'm hoping that one of my mommas will take to them.

But I'm prepared to brood them. I'm planning on breeding some of my young Muscovy drakes with the Pekin hens to get faster growing meat birds.

Yay!! SO excited.

I must add that I found a local group on Facebook via the Alabama thread here on BYC that allows locals to get together and talk poultry, waterfowl etc.

They're here!! I got 6. I've always had bad luck with 5(4 boys 1 girl, twice)

on the way home.




Sadly, Muscovy momma didn't want them. She didn't want ME to touch them but she didn't want them with her and her babies either. I set them up in the coop so the others can see them. Here's hoping for at least 4 girls!
