Well what a morning I have had and it's not even 8 am. My new goats, well they are just a handful, they make the ducks look like chickens pffft.
My husband built a big old corral for them and he went out and fed the baby a bottle, and went off to work (he is so good the baby only takes the bottle from him) So I went out fed them their hay and feed and headed back to the house, within three minutes the 4 year old Appy had opened the lock and set off through the woods. So here I go in my pajamas, losing my sneakers as I am running through to the otherside. Two lucky things,..one I live next to a garden shop,..so lots of land with just ,..well flowers and two Appy was just looking for me, she came running when she saw me.
got her back and put her in the chicken run which I hopefully think she can't manage to get out of.
Next problem of the day, she thinks I am a goat,..and wants me within sight at all times. Mahhh mahhh maaaah. She doesn't consider the little one a companion at all. Yikes. So I guess I have to call into work today, because I have to make sure she doesn't get loose while I am not home and my husband and I can figure out how to secure them into the corral.
I guess this is another learning curve for me. By the way the woman I bought them from said it's funny but most people who come to buy the goat from her started out with chickens!!!

Aww... Reminds me of when I got my first bottle baby. He was old enough to be eating normal food, but he would run around our house screaming when I'd go in. We had 2 other goats, but that didn't matter to him. Eventually he got used to the idea that I wasn't a goat, or Mom, and he settled and was content with his new goat friends. He was always a very boisterous goat, and LOVED people... He really thought he was one of us

They will open latches, and i think given time they could pick locks. Secure the latch or change it for one that can be pinned I use a short chain with a spring clasp and a ring to clip it to. They sound cute ....Good Luck !!

I am sooooo not going to underestimate them after this morning. I watch how The big one watches everything, just everything with hawk eyes. I am thinking of having her do my taxes now and maybe help the kids with homework :)

Put up a hotwire. Keeps my herd in, which ranges in size from 4 to 40 over the years. And yes, they will open gates, jump fences, wiggle under. The places I have found goats IN the field are amazing. Once had one get itself stuck in the chipper in the barn. Yes, the chipper was off, and he wasn't supposed to be in the barn.
