So we have just got into backyard chickens. We did the day-old shipping thing back in March. We started with 24, but thru negative chicken math, we are down to 15. We planned on doing two coops/runs, but after it took 8 weeks to finish just one, we decided to rehome 1/3 of our flock. Our daughter took them, so they aren’t very far! As for our remaining flock, I find myself thinking about them all the time. Spending as much time with them, spoiling them with treats and just loving them. My wife thought it was cute at first, but maybe I’m overdoing it a bit? Is this normal first-time chicken owner behavior? They are just fun to observe and interact with. I think we’ll be doing chickens for many years to come!

No, you're not overdoing it. Isn't it joyous when we get so consumed with excitement!

I'm not new to chickens, but I consider myself an absolute novice, and I'm going through raising chicks for the second time in my life. After losing my last chicken (7 years old) recently from my first set of 6, I started over with 17 new chicks in April. I too feel obsessed. Since getting them I feel like outside of work I live, sleep and breath chicks. I'm out there every hour on weekends checking on them, and watching "chicken TV".

Enjoy them to their fullest. They are completely endearing and delightful. Definitely try to involve your wife as much as possible!
