how do I get them used to me again I have 14 Rhode Island reds and 1 Easter eager
I’ve been flicking them and poking them to get in there coop at night and out in the morning they’ve gotten better and better but still having problems
P.s they’re 7 weeks
At seven weeks I find that gentle kindness, encouraging sounds and tasty treats are much more effective tools to teaching them than sternness and physical punishment.
If you make one noise (kissing, clicking, tapping, calling) while giving treat's they'll get used to it and come when you kiss, click, tap, call - treats or no treats. It takes a while though. @staceyj is right. Trust needs to be earned. (No better way to a chicken's heart than food!)
get you a big bag of meal worms....just kneel down and feed them by hand, and sprinkle meal worms around and under you, just move slowly getting up and down, and they'll learn they can trust you
I have always spent a lot of time with my chickens and ducks. I so talk to them the whole time I am feeding them or doing something in the coop (cleaning..water. what have you) I have also sat with them many times in the coop
My bantam chickens are more prone to be affectionate than my maran and nh red but they have always been sweet
If I need to get them in the coop I pat their fluffy bums while hearding them to the coop door
