The feed store called her an Americauna or Aracauna - so I figured she was one of the two. Now that she is almost fully grown, I think I may have a RIR!

Any thoughts?? I think I've been had - but there's nothing I can do about it now!

Her legs are way to yellow for Ameracauna or Aracauna.....my 2 cents.....Certainly not the expert......

Looks like a RIR to me! And just FYI for next time, anything a feed store or hatchery calls an Araucana or Ameraucana is actually an Easter Egger.

Well, I was hoping for an Easter Egger of some sort (had a feeling that could happen with a feed store chick) because my original plan was to have three breeds that would lay three colors of eggs. With a raccoon attack and now this, I think I've got three brown-egg layers! Whoops!

(Guess I'll just have to apply for a permit to get more chickens next year!)

With the color of the tail feathers, I'd be more inclined to say she's a New Hampshire Red...she looks just like my 2 girls...

Time to get more chicks?? Feed stores are notorious for not really knowing. Sometimes you can find someone who knows something, but in general the sales folk only sell what is in the bin, and orders/chicks get mixed up lots of times. It happens.

She looks just like my production Reds. But I bet she's a great layer!

She is a production red. Feed stores will not have real RIR's.....I love my production reds and they give me the best eggs!!!
