So I noticed that my female rabbit that I bought last weekend has been acting a litttle strange - not eating so much and just more generally skittish than she had been. Then I noticed today a little bit of blood in her urine. I called the breeder and she was exposed to a male 30 days ago, but they didn't think that it had taken.

So after a nervous talk with the breeder (you'd think I was the one having babies I'm so wound up) I think I have everything set up (using an old shoe box for a next box for now).

Even though we bought a "breeding pair" we weren't planning on breeding - guess our plans have changed!

(Just so excited - had to share with someone!)

Congratulations! Bunnies. We have two litters now and they are the cutest things. Little baby Lionheads.

I don't know what size your bun is but you need something larger than a shoe box. If you have a dish pan that'll do, although she will chew on it. A cat litter pan would work as well, if it isn't too large. Lots of straw or hay in the pen so she can build a nest. If you don't have that, add whatever loose, non toxic stuff you have. Possibly shredded newspaper etc. Hay is best. I liked grass hay. They will pull lots of fur from their chest when ready to kindle. I liked to check kits right after birth to be sure there aren't any dead ones. Those dead ones can chill the newborns very quickly. Remove any that you don't think are live and leave the rest alone for a while. Enjoy the babies as they grow very, very quickly! V

Congrats, I have 3 pregnant does right now, let us know how it turns out. I agree about the box..sometimes they will chew a whole cardboard box up in their nesting period before the babies come, may want to us a litter box. I have found that the small litter boxes with the dome top works well. I have large breeds so its just the right size. What kind of rabbits do you have?
