I think my girls miss the boys...

I have 23 pullets about 5 months old, mixed BO, Speckled Sussex, and EE. I HAD 8 RIR birds that I thought were pullets, turned out to be 8 roos. They were introduced to the girls when they were 1 month old, the girls were 2 months old. So they have all been in the coop together for the last 3 months.

Well, last Sunday we caught all the 4-month-old boys and took them on a one-way trip to a freezer camp, a little place that my buddy and I have named Camp Crownomore... At 4 months, they were BIGGER than my 5-month-old hens!

The girls seem disoriented and a little confused. I think things are much quieter out there, obviously no rooster crowing going on. I just started getting 1-2 eggs per day, hoping that will increase soon as more girls "come on line".

I think they miss the boys. I know I do.

But I'll be bringing back a couple of boys in a few days for them - one BO rooster and one EE rooster. Hope the transition doesn't upset them too much...

I have one little boy right now, a SLW that's 7 weeks old. He's not crowing or old enough to breed yet so he's no trouble at this point. He's so cute right now that i'm having a hard time deciding what to do with him. He's already looking after the little girls his own age and I think he's going to be a good roo. i think they'll miss him like yours missed their boys. DH says "just turn him loose in the yard when he starts crowing and if makes it great, if not survival of the fittest" I think Camp crownomore (loveit) or rehoming would be more humane. It wouldn't be a problem at all, but I'm getting two roo's that I hope to breed next month and I don't want to worry about him getting with the hens he's not supposed to.
