My chicks are almost 6 weeks old. Bad weather and a back injury have delayed to completion of the coop so they are still housed in a gigantic box inside my house, covered with every screen I could pull from the windows.

When DH & I arrived home from work today, we were horrified to see the screens collapsed inside the box. A quick nose count determined all 7 were present and uninjured, but OMG what a mess!! there was litter and poop all over the place

, including the hall and the kitchen by the cat's food tray. I don't think the cat got to eat any of his cereal. My theory is either someone got to flapping around and knocked a screen loose causing a domino effect. OR the cat, who hasn't been the least bit interested in these birds from day one, tried to walk across the top of the screens and caved it in. I cannot imagine his reaction to 7 chickens marching around the house, drinking his water and eating his food!

The funny part is, all 7 chicks put themselves back into the box before we got home!

I sure hope it doesn't rain this weekend...i am so ready for these girls to be out of the house!

don't ya just love em? i resorted to chicken wire over the tub for awhile- finally moved them into a spare bedroom, then last weekend i was sick and suddenly hear my husband laughing, he heard something, looked in the living room and there were 4 two months olds eating the dogs dinner and skipping around looking for goodies! yep- this is the first week in 2 months it has dried out enough to work on the coop

Last wkend 3 Serama chicks got out in my house and were partying like rock stars. I had a heck of a time catching the little boogers. All i could do is laugh. They are fast.

I've been keeping my ameraucana chicks in my computer room/home office. They were still quite small so I didn't feel that a top was necessary. Boy was I wrong!

Upon entering the room to check on them I witnessed one of them standing on the top edge of the Rubbermaid tub I have been using. He/she flew back down into the tub and that's when I realized that one had managed to find its way onto the floor. My son and his friends laughed hysterically while watching me chase that itty bitty chick all over that room.

I covered the top with chicken wire after that.

That's a great story

I can't believe they tried to look so sweet and innocent by getting back in their box, and I can't help but think what the cat was going through.
