Can anyone help please, my Hennie Pennie started this cough/sniz thing to day. It looks like she kinda has a runny nose. This evening she is breathing thought her mouth. Her nose doesn't seem to be runny anymore and is all clean. I got my trio monday and non of the other's show any sings. But this did come on today. Their pin and coop is cleaned every 2 days. Freash food and water everyday. Same food as what the former owner used. She just started laying. She is 1years old. I'm a new chicken mom and don't know what to do or not do. Any tidbit will help. She's my favorite.

here's a pic. Thank you so much Denise

Do you have other chickens than this trio that could become exposed if she has a respiratory disease? Some of the common respiratory diseases can cause coughing, sneezing, and runny nose--things like MG, infectious bronchitis, and others. Hopefully it is just dust from the pine shavings or feed. Watch for any swelling around eyes or face--then you would need to treat with Tylan 50 injections or think about culling. I would also contact the breeder. Your state agricultural agent or state vet can advise you if you need to get tested. Here are a couple of links for you, the second one can give you your state vet contact info:

This morning she isn't sneezing/coughing. No runny nose and is breathing normally. She looks like she did when I bought her home. I got a hold of a vet and they told me to watch her and the other's. But think it's just dust and pollen. The vet should be here around 2. Just to make sure very thing is going to be ok.

The vet came yesterday and is doing some test but thinks she will be fine. He thinks the move and all the pollen was the cause. She is doing good this morning and yesterday. And ofcourse shes doing good i called the vet. So fingers crossed that the test all come back good.

That would be wonderful if she was just sneezing due to dust/pollen. Chickens do sneeze occasionally just like we do. She is a pretty little bird. She looks like my mille fleur hen.

She is so sweet. When I go out there she's always the frist to meet you and wants to be held. I keep it up and she will be the legless chicken. Lol when I frist saw her I knew I want her. Thank you Denise
