I think someone abandoned a domestic duck at my neighborhood lake?

So at around 8:30 pm i was on a walk with my family and we noticed a duck in someone’s yard. This isn’t uncommon since our neighborhood backs up to a lake but it was odd because this duck looked a lot different than our usual (black and white, splotchy) and seemed very friendly. He followed us and even stopped to go up to houses where he could see a person in the windows or in the yard so it was extremely odd behavior compared to wild ones. After some googling it seems like it could be an ancona duck because of his coloring, his friendliness, and the fact that it hasn’t flown away from our yard after following us home. Can anyone confirm and recommend what we should do to care for him while we call around to see who can take him long term? I feel like if he were wild he would’ve flown off by now and wouldn’t have had any interest in us, so I want to be able to help if possible.

He’s been here overnight for around 9-10 hours and in the daylight he actually seems dark brown with a green head

Doesn't really need a place to swim for now. Just away to wash his face, a bucket or deep bowl will do. Definitely a domestic duck someone either dumped off or it has owners close by, but it won't last long out on its own. Bless you for taking it in. I think TSC carries small bags of feed which if you are not keeping him long term would help. A safe place would help too. Many predators love duck, including neighborhood dogs. Beautiful duck.

We don’t have any neighbors who keep them so I think it was someone taking him to the lake nearby, right now he’s in our backyard and we dont have any outdoor animals so we’ll get some feed and a safe little area for him to stay and swim

He’s been doing really well today, we got an industrial tub that he’s been in and out of all afternoon with some purina duck pellets and a little bit of watermelon since we had a fresh one. We have a shed so we set it up so that he wouldn’t get into anything dangerous and he’s staying in there overnight and we think we have a home for him that he’ll go to in a few days :)

I recently rescued a Muscovy duck off a local river in Elkhart. I monitored her for a week to see if anyone would claim her. Talked with park staff and was given the go ahead. I am interested in adopting a friend for her. I do not want to purchase. Would be willing to befriend/ catch. I am having a predictor proof cage build. Thanks
