I was in the basement looking for some wood to finish a pen for my 2 broodies and my beagle had followed me down, turned my back for 5 seconds and he had gotten the door open. He runs out, I run after him. He starts running towards my chicken coop and then runs up towards the road when he sees my one roo (who will attack him) and when I get up there their is two Canadian Geese and their goslings! Most of the chicks and the adults ran back down the hill to my neighbors pond but 3 babes where still their, one at the side of the road and the other 2 where on the middle of the road! My dog tackled one and both dropped and played died, me running after him and screaming "Leave it!, Leave it!" and he just sniffed its butt and went on his way. I stop to wave them away down the hill and run to the neighbors (not the one with the pond) and catch him and carry him back and telling him "If you ever do that again, I will kill you" (no, I did not mean it) and that was part my morning.

Even the best trained dog will have times where they will focus on their prey more than their owner's commands.

I wish everyone would train their dogs....

My dog is a beagle which are very hard to control off leash and that is why he is on a leash, tie-out, or inside all the time, this was a freak accident that he got loss and I was posting in response to my happiness that he had not harm the gosling.

I have a beagle/bassett hound mix - both breeds on thier own are very stubborn to train so imagine how stubborn my girl is LOL

Dixie is 6 years old and has never harmed a chicken - duck or quail but she did help the boxers kill a cat that made the bad choice of jumping INTO the back yard ( it was a stray so no owner complained of a missing cat )

I can just picture your dog running full out after a little gosling LOL

glad to hear all the babies made it to safety and that you did not kill your dog LOL
