Help! I turned my back on the new puppy for a few minutes! She had been doing so well with the chickens, but she grabed one! I thought she was dead, but she's not. She's stunned and missing some feathers from her back. She can walk, but is wabbly. I have her wrapped in a towel on my lap as I type this. What should I look for? What should I do?

...since I typed this, she has come out of shock. She's in a cage in my DD's room and is eating a little. I think the only problem is the big hole in her back. What should I do about that?

Have you flushed it out with either a saline solution or hydrogen peroxide? That will take all the germs away.
Then put on some neosporin and see if you can bandage her up.
Put a baby aspirin in her water and keep her warm and quiet.

I washed it out with plain water, put neosporin plus pain reliever on it.

I've been sitting with her in the rocking chair, and she likes being rocked to sleep just like when she was a chick. She's sitting on my lap now and half asleep.

I put tetricycline....can't spell it...in the water. Is that ok? should I have put something else in there?

The dog is in jail, planing on putting myself there soon! I'm a bad chicken mom for trusting that puppy. It was my fault. I should have known better.

NO YOU ARE NOT A BAD MOM!!!! Don't say things like that!!! Your puppy seemed well mannered about the chickens and when you turned around it wasn't. Don't beat yourself up about it.

Thanks Peeps7. I was really hoping that the puppy would learn to leave them alone. She was really birdy when she first got here. She was a stray that my DH fell in love with. She is a sweet dog, but now that she's gotten one, I'm afraid I've ruined her.
