I got Sassy out to clean her wounds and maybe put triple anti-bi ointment on her when I discovered that her injury is more serious than I thought. She's missing SKIN on the area on her tail and to the right rear. I can see muscle and even bits of fat.

Can she be saved w/o vet help? Or is she suffering for nothing? She is eating/drinking/pooping, but hasn't laid an egg today. Might her vent be damaged?

1. Separate her from the others if you haven't already.

2. Keep her calm and quiet. Keeping her in a dark spot may help prevent her from laying.

3. Keep treating her wounds as you would any other animal (no painkillers in any ointments, though).

4. Keep a close eye on her wound that she's not picking at it.

As long as she's eating, drinking & pooping that's a good sign. If it looks like an infection is setting in - getting hot, red, swollen, odor, etc. - you should consider antibiotics or culling.
