i have young kids and close neighbors so i need something quiet and tame. i want to get a day old or close to it so we can hand raise it and so it grows up with my ducks, dog and kids.
i really like pilgrims and sabs.
so what to you goose lovers think?

I think whichever breed you decide on is best. There are a few breeds that are more aggressive than others, but if they are raised well, this shouldn't be a problem.

I personally don't think any breed of goose is good around small children, kids are so hyper!! Definitely teach the children (or try to anyway) how to act around the geese.

Sebastopols are lovely, but there are many other breeds that are pretty as well.

well its not just about looks. sabs and toulouse are the calmest quietest i found so far. my kids are really good around our ducks and i am sure they would do good with the geese. no running after jumping around ect.. when it comes to our birds.

i am getting 2 sabs from another byc member next mth i think

Sebs, americans, pilgrims, toulouse, there are many different breeds that are 'gentle', though some are more so than others. About the only breed I wouldn't have are chinese, I've heard they are pretty aggressive. I used to say that about embdens, but I now have a young embden, and about the only thing it's aggressive towards are the chickens, it puts them in their places!! But my american usually runs from them. Most of my chickens are bantams, so they are about 1/3 to 1/4 the size of the goose, but it still runs away!

Like I said before, whichever breed you like the most is the one that's right for you

that would be sooo funny seeing them running away from a tiny chicken lol
its to bad everyone is sold out on goslings but the 1's i think i am getting are still young so i guess i will live
i wouldnt mind having a few dif. breeds

I'm waiting till it cools off to get some older geese from Holderreads. I have 1 blue american goose, and Holderreads is the only hatchery that sells them. Rather than wait till spring to get tiny babies, I'm just going to get some around the same age that mine is

Save time that way, since they don't start laying until their 2nd year. Sometimes I've read they'll lay in their first year, but I'm not counting on that. I want me geese to be around the same age
