Our original plan was to have only 2 chickens for our two youngest girls. Then my 17 year old wanted a hen and we let her pick one out all in the same weekend. The next weekend I went to the feed store to just look at them and buy mealworms. I came home with a tiny little baby, so we now have 4 beautiful chicks. The feed store has a really nice shipment coming in next weekend. They even have brahmas coming! However, I would like to have a couple of show birds. My two girls want to get into 4H and show at the state fair. I don't know what to do. Get 2 more at the feed store or buy 2 show birds. Perhaps the feed store has showable birds? I ran it by with hubby and he says a silkie would be nice. Have I lost my mind??? I know I won't be able to put the new chicks in with the others right away. They would be in viewing distance of each other. How do I stop wanting more???

We started out last year with 5 chicks and 1 duckling. The next day I went and got 3 more chicks, then my hubby went and got 3 more chicks and another duckling!! Then I decided I needed more duck eggs (to sell) so I got 3 more ducks in the fall. Now that it is Spring I went crazy.....I have 13 chicken eggs and 5 duck eggs in an incubator. And I just picked up 9 more chicks and another duckling, plus 25 meat chickens and 8 turkeys. 2 of the meat chickens were the wrong breed so I took them back to swap them and ended up getting not just 2 but 7 more! I just can't help myself!!!! lol

I feel like a 5 year old at the feed store whining "just two more!".... Chicken math will get the best of you I promise. Now that I'm stumbling through my first batch of chicks, once that coop is done all hell will break lose I promise!
