I want some chickens

My name is Maribel and I live in Azusa, CA Ihave been wanting to raise chickens for some time now. I’ve been looking at chicken coops and I just don’t know what to get. I’m looking to having 5 hens. I’m also trying to read and learn more about how to keep my chickens healthy and happy. Any advice would be great!

Hello, Maribel, and welcome to BYC! Glad you joined.
If you are at all handy and have some basic tools, I would recommend you build from scratch or convert a shed into your coop then attach a run.
You can learn so much by reading the threads on the various forums, reading highly rated articles on the various topics and perusing the coop articles for ideas on what to build when you are ready.
You need to remember that the minimum recommendations for the coop and run are 4 sq ft and 10 sq ft, respectively. However, I always highly recommend you go higher on the run area. Make it as large as you reasonably can. You will not regret it. No one has ever posted here that they wish their run wasn't so big. Lots have posted here that they regret making their run so small.
