I have been thinking about getting some scovies for awhile now, mostly for setting my call eggs since we have almost no luck in the incubator. Now that I read the article in backyard poultry I really want some for meat as well. They sound like a perfect breed for what I would want to do, have some hens to set my call eggs and have some males to eat and the best part is how much foraging they do and they reproduce rather easily which is a plus.
So my question is where can I get some? I would really prefer to get them from a breeder and something better than just a mixed backyard flock if at all possible, I am a stickler for perfection (the wife is the complete opposite however). I would like to get ducklings but if they hatch out easily in an incubator I would consider getting eggs. Thanks in advance.
P.S. I did a search and nothing came up so please forgive me if this has already been discussed.

I got mine from Natures Hatchery and they're great! I know there are people on this board from up your way that have them so finding them should be easy. I've heard that they are hard to hatch in an incubator.
You'll love them!!

i got mine from a man a few towns over.I bought three and he thru in an extra one .he was fixing to turn them loose on his pond if no one bought them soon. I would have bought more but DH put his foot down

I have muscovy and live in the RDU NC area, but sell pick up only.
If you want to buy muscovys make sure you buy pure breeds because a muscovy can cross with different breeds but these will be mules. They can not reproduce them self. no baby ducks after that.
It happend to me a couple of times and it is no fun to have ducks for meat and you can't breed them.
I have some for sale if you don't mind to drive south.
If you buy them make sure you ask to see the parents. Si you can seeif they are muscovy's.
Try to find some on craigslist.
They taste great and the mother duck are great setters and will hatch out a lot of ducklings.
Good luck finding some.

You can get ducklings fm many hatcheries. esp. if you're just looking for them for brooding & meat and not for show. Check out the link for Muscovy Duck Centrals Breeders map and see if a breeder is close to you.

Also, many on here a BYC do have Scovies and plenty of ducklings every spring & I'm sure will be willing to ship. I know Cottage Rose has some really beautiful Scovies. If you're wanting Scovies for brooding and meat then I wouldn't worry so much about "perfection." Scovies have great personalities as a general rule, are great moms and foragers whether or not they are perfect specimens. I sold 4 of my hens to a guy who wanted them to brood/hatch out Cambell(sp.) eggs. Also, you may want to consider white birds since they dress out nicer for the table. The darker the bird the more pin feathers etc. your going to see on the carcass. We've had first hand exp. & they are NOT the easiest birds to process.

though they are quite tasty.

Generally, Scovy eggs are difficult to hatch out in a incubator. Seems there is a pretty good die off rate so if you're having trouble with Call eggs you probably shouldn't go that route.
