I feed twice a day, sometimes more if I'm feeling nice. If there's still scratch or pellets on the ground when I come around the second time, I scold them and tell them they can't play Nintendo for a day.

In the winter, I visit the coop twice a day and make sure there is always food available for them. I just keep layer mash out free choice for them. I also keep out scratch, but it's not their main food, it's like a treat. And so they run out of that a lot. I also give them a lot of scraps and treats like apple cores, peelings from vegetables, etc.
In the summer, I visit the coop once a day and make sure there's some food there. I'm not as generous in the summer because mine free range over a few acres and I want them to eat bugs bugs bugs and whatever else they eat when they're out there. They hardly ever run out of food in their bin though. Usually, I go to check and there's still food from the day before and I just leave. So obviously, once every few days, it'll be empty and I fill it up again. I still throw my leftovers to them though, but since it's so warm here, they're usually right out of the fridge.
