Robin has been sitting on fertile eggs for 20 days. Yesterday (Day 19) I heard peeping and got a glimpse of a yellow chick head peeking out! I want to see what else is going on under her, but she gets upset if I even look at her. Robin is a thousand, no a MILLION times more patient than I am. Should I lift her off to peek? Probably not, right? She tells the one peeping chick to be quiet when I get close, and it does! I'm so excited!

It depends on your broody, if she won't get upset enough to leave the nest it should be fine. I would peak under mine. I just put a hand under the front of her breast and lift her slightly so I could see in the nest real quick. Our hen was very sweet and never threatened to peck or anything. My daughter would hand feed her on the nest every day during incubation. Enjoy them, I just love to watch a broody taking care of chicks!

I will be in your shoes a few LOOOOOOONG weeks from now! I have 6 fertile Welsummer eggs coming Wednesday and I can tell you I will be jumping up and down with excitetment as hatch time nears. I was skipping with joy last night when I moved my broody girl to her own private area and she sat right on her "place holder eggs" like I never even touched her! When I checked on her this morning, she was grumpy (her actual name!) as ever and sitting on those eggs with all her might. I am so proud

This will be my first broody hatch, and I ALREADY love it more than using the incubator
