So I am just starting to sell my extra eggs. I had about 4 1/2 dz in my fridge last night. Well I scrambled some for my son and I then I decided to scramble some more of the older ones and feed them back to my hens. I went and sat in the doorway to their coop which they know means I have treats so they all gathered nicely in a semicircle around me and my son waiting. So I tossed a few pieces out and all heck broke loose. My son was laughing and trying to get into the bowl to throw out more(he is only a year) and eat some more himself. So they mobbed me trying to get more. It was so funny. Once they calmed down a little I threw some more out and one hen got a fairly big piece, the chase was on. She finally ended up jumping between me and the door frame back into the coop and no one else would follow her so she ate her treat in peace lol.

What a sweet moment with your son and chooks.

Complete cuteness, I can almost see his little hands squishing around in the treat bowl and hear the belly laughs as the chooks went crazy.

I have finally accepted that feeding by hand means there had better be a fence between us! Either that or drop the container and haul butt outta there!

I love hand feeding my marans flock... The rooster is the boldest and convinces the hens to eat out of my hand... They are standoffish for the most part... Not him though..... He has entitlement issues... If I come outside...I MUST bring something...

I can rarely ever walk anywhere in my yard - or open my door for that matter - without tripping over multiple chickens. I'm pretty sure they think food is produced by my finger tips.

Have you noticed that when you approach your chickens, they only look at your hands to see if you have food. It's never your face to see your expression. Sigh. We are nothing but vending machines.

Thank you for the cute story, Rubyrogue.

Oh yea they learn way quick. I buy the almost expired mixed salad greens from the store for .50 a bag they already know that the krinkle sound means greens
