Okay, it wasn't even a contest. I just happened to click through to the farm & garden section of craigslist at just the right time, and "won" the opportunity to purchase a wonderful new duck run at a great price. The guy is about half an hour from me, but he has one of those dual dog kennels with a removable panel in the middle. It's 10 x 10 x 6, or can be used as two runs at 10 x 5 x 6. There are two gates, and he even has wire mesh for the top, and a roof structure to go along with it. All for $100!!! I just heard back from him, and because I was the first to respond (and I'm sure there were plenty of other responses at that price), he's giving me first crack at it. Woo-hoo!
I am so pumped. A basic 10 x 10 x 6 kennel, without the "extras" and with only one gate, is $145 at the "scratch n dent" warehouse. So this is a good deal.
I have a 12 x 7 run for my current flock, but I'm getting more ducks in the Spring (plus those I'm incubating right now), and I want an extra breeding pen for my new breeding program. With this new purchase, I'll have *two* extra breeding pens, but the flexibility to turn it into one large pen for a larger grouping. I am so excited!
Now I just have to make arrangements for pick-up, and then make sweet to my sweetheart to help me install and set up the new run. I married well.
Edited to add: I guess this also means I have to get another dog house--I have one I intended to use as a shelter in the *one* additional duck run, but since I'm going to have *two* runs... I'll need two dog houses.
