O.K., it's August in Mississippi and it's hot. I have been putting a lot of ice in the waterer and the hens seem to love it. I wouldn't think this would cause any problems, but I thought I would check with y'all and make sure. Is there any reason that I shouldn't do this?

Nope, won't hurt them a bit

.. Really a good thing in my opinion.

i fill our water feeder slam full of ice then fill it with water every other day. when its really hot now they know what i am doing when i come and dump the old stuff out. if i listen real close i can almost hear them go ahhhh when they drink out of it.

One of the manufacturers that I represent has a system that chills recirculated water through an insulated nipple drinker system.

In virtually all classes of chickens we can identify increased rate of gain or egg production.

The investment in the system does not make it economically feasable for operations outside the tropics.

The same should apply to the backyard birds and a bag of ice when it is hot.

That's pretty impressive! Increased egg production is almost always a good thing.
