Icicle/Frostbite

Hey all! Last night I forgot to shut the door to my coop and went out this morning to check on my flock. I found one chicken that got left outlast night before the door closed and she was frozen to a wooden block. She has icicles sticking out of her butt, a very red tummy and frozen clumps of feathers all over her. It reached temps of about -8 or lower last night so I’m really worried about her. I took her in my house and now have her in a cage. I didn’t blow dry her or put warm water on her yet because I googled it and it said warming her up too quickly isn’t good. What do I do?

I would give her some warm mash, and treat her for shock first!

Soak her feet in lukewarm water about 100 degrees. Dry in a warm towel. Heat lamps or a hair dryer can also be used. Keep her inside until she is out of shock. Offer some tepid water with electrolytes or sugar water. Then when drinking watery chicken feed and egg would be good. Do not massage frozen skin or it can cause more damage.
