Question:

First egg hatching, but already have had trouble with survival rate.

One of them isn't through its just made a 1 centimeter across crack on the surface.

I picked it up to inspect it. And it is trying to get through. My question is...

I forgot to take note of if the crack was on the side or top. Should the first pip crack be ideally on the side or on top when the duckling is trying to hatch? or down? Does it matter? (Until this point I'd been careful but I sort of got lost on the moment. And I thought I'd ask because I don't want to take chances.) I guess I won't need to add water for most of the first day while its breaking through right?

Perhaps from trying to get through I also think the egg was moved by its pecking out of the position I had it in originally because the spot its trying to peck through doesn't line up exactly with the mark I had on the egg to note rotations/positioning (edited in later).

What do you think?
