Well, just as the title says, I'm wondering what the ideal size door is? In an ideal world I'd like to keep it relatively small. This way if a predator does break into my run, the larger ones might have a tough time getting into the coop. Now I realize that optimistic, but hey what the heck! In addition, I want the appropriate size so that I can get an automatic coop door in the future once I run power out to my coop. Thanks all!

a ideal sise is 12"x12" that is what I had but then I got a automatic door and the door I had was wood and would swell and not want to close easy. So I had to improvise here is a video hope it helps.http://s253.photobucket.com/user/kardar2/media/chicken coop/20150529_161658.mp4.html

My pop door is 9"x12" and can accommodate all these birds with no problem. I would suggest raising the door up around 8" to avoid your litter from clogging the threshold of the door. Mine is a guillotine style door and it opens and closes with just heavy whipper sniper line no pulleys involved through a small hole drilled through the top of the door it is not automatic and not all automatic doors are created equal varying in size and design.

I built mine 11"x14". This will accommodate the jersey Giants in the flock as well as the others.

8 Inches seems pretty high off the floor. I have envisioned a lip on the bottom though. Thanks for the suggestion!
