Ideal to send 5 Red Laced Cornish... What Kind Of Packing Peanuts?

Ideal to send 5 Red Laced Cornish... What is usually sent for packing peanuts? Is it always RIR or BO and what do you do whith them? Thanks

I just had 11 chicks sent to me from Ideal on 6/26/09. Guess I was lucky and it was warm enough they didn't send any extras. I asked the same question you did before I got them though. People replied mostly RIR but there were also BO and Barred Rocks mentioned.

My plan if extra were sent was to raise them until they crowed and then just give them away. If they layed instead of crowing I would keep them.

I had an Ideal shipment in Nov with Black Australorps for packing peanuts. And another in March with NHReds.

Ideal is running another 99 cent special (drat! I am sooo weak) but I did order only 5 red laced cornish and they have a special with rir, production reds and barred rock.. I hope I get a few if these as packing peanuts!

Sold another of the BAs to a BYCer. Rest went to freezer camp.

I'm still growing out the NH Reds. One of them is sold. The others have 10 days left....if they don't sell then it's off to freezer camp.

I got Cochins as packing peanuts, 5 Buff and 3 Blue. I think any breed is possible.

I've gotten 2 shipments from Ideal in the last month. No packing peanuts because its so warm.

Well I got my packing peanuts!

5 Red Lced Cornish ( the order) and
4 Barred Rock... I would have been happy with rir, barred rock!

(one weak br one died... )

I need a barred rock rooster.. the others will go to freezer camp with the cornish crosses.

My meat bird flock will be cornish cross, red broiler, white rock, white rhode island, dark cornish cross, and the red laced cornish I think even a few buckeye for crossbreeding...

between all of these crossbreeds with lots of feed I will plan on hatching some of my own meat birds and will be happy to get a
8/10 lb chicken (dress out at 5/6 lbs) in 12-14 weeks for the freezer. Maybe will cut costs too!
