I have an existing structure that was used to hide a generator (a very large very ugly generator from WWII that I am SO happy we finally got rid of I might add! Good old big greenie...)
Right now it's just four chipboard walls and a hinged roof, (the hinged roof is QUITE heavy), and ugly as sin but I will spruce it up nice enough. (see picture, and yes we have that much snow in NW Ontario in April. It gets very cold here, -40 sometimes, so this coop will be well insulated and a hanging lamp) I plan on moving the building to a better side of the house.
My main concern is how to make it cozy inside for four laying hens. I have 10 acres, fenced, and plan on freeranging them, and will build a pen attached to the coop for when we aren't home. We have hounds so I am not particularly worried about coyote and fox.
Any ideas about what to do as far as adding nest boxes, the flooring, etc.? I have a good start from other ideas online but wanted to ask here.
Thanks in advance,
L
