Ideas on finding chickens in Ontario

Hiya Pat,

I live just outside of Cambridge. I know Uxbridge-- my parents have friends there. I'll PM you my info (check your messages here:) )

Cheers,
Anna

I live near Niagara Falls Ontario, and got my first day old chicks this May. Our family loves having chickens. I also bought two silkie hens at the Wainfleet auction in September. I bought the 16 day old chicks from the local feed store. Only one of them was a rooster. They allowed very small purchases, and offered quite a variety of breeds. The hatchery was "Frey's" (in St. Jacobs). All the chicks survived and I have been very satisfied.
If you are ever around the Niagara area and just want a couple silkies, I'm pretty sure I have a friend who would be glad to sell you some.
I went to the "Odd and Unusual" auction in Wainfleet twice, and there were lots of nice chickens for sale, including silkies. Some chickens sell really cheap- as low as 25 cents each. I got my two silkies for five bucks. I let my 12 year old son do the bidding, which he found exciting. I think the next odd and unusual auction will be in the spring. I can find out when, if you like.

PepperAnne, there is a sale in the spring in Mount Forrest, which is less than an hour away from you. Fur & Feather Fanciers sale is held at the fairgrounds. Many different & exotic breeds can be bought there. I live in Milton, & visit Guelph often. Let me know what breeds you are after, & maybe I can help.
