Hi all - our current layers are Red Sex Links and Easter Eggers, so it is no problem to tell which breed has laid which egg (the Sex Links lay brown eggs and the EEs lay blue eggs). Our new pullets are Barred Rocks and Buff Orpingtons. They are not yet laying but I understand they will lay brown eggs. Once they are laying, will it be straightforward to distinguish the eggs from each of the brown egg laying breeds? That is, will they be distinctly different shades or sizes?

Every egg can be different, but yes, you should be able to distinguish the Barred Rock and Orpington eggs from the RSL.

Now...if you have more than 1 BR or BO, then you may not know which individual laid the egg unless you take time to catch each one in the act so you can note if there are any distinct differences.
