if lumber price wasn't an issue, what dimension duck house would you build?

I bought an old saw mill property that came with lots of lumber. I would like meat ducks and have a large acreage. The winters have lots of snow and -25c /-12f temperatures. If you had unlimited lumber what dimensions would you make a duck house? Length width height.

Not very big if I had the $. Ducks prefer to free range. Don't care much for a coop in my experience. If I had the $ I think they would prefer I invested in more fencing.

I would make several smaller coops rather than one big one. Make the ceiling 8' tall, normal building height. Make the coops long and narrow rather than square, for ventilation.

If you are planning to give them water in the coop, make a very large area for it with excellent drainage: first lay down some bigger gravel, then poultry grit, then chick grit. Then put their water containers on the grit. This creates a surface that isn't too hard on their feet (but the rest of the coop needs property soft bedding) and that drains well. It also allows them to get their grit. I did something similar for my ducklings (hatched last week, brooded outside) and it is working well so far.

I'd make a "stable" of sorts with stalls, the size of a horse stall ( I can't think of the exact size that is sorry!)to seperate my breeds. Then attach outdoor runs complete with pools. A room for hatching, a room for brooding and a feed room. Taking up only a couple of acres. It doesn't snow here though so not sure how it'd work for you. But... will you breed your own meat ducks? Or will you buy young ducks off heat and grow them out?

Incubate my own ducks.
