I have a broody BO with 6 blue eggs under her. She is currently in her nest and has not had anyone lay in there with her yet. If someone does lay in there with her, I'd be able to tell it apart because we have no blue egg-layers (8 girls total with 3 nests). When do I say it's time to separate the mama from the other hens? When she's getting harassed or bumped off the nest?

Also, our nest is up off the ground with no ramp, so I'm going to have to move her when they hatch or earlier. When should I move her? Before they ASAP(day 1), before they hatch (before lockdown), or after they hatch?

I have several options in separating her, which would you do?

1. setup up a dog playpen in the coop with a milkcrate nest
2. setup the playpen in the shop with a lid so it's more like a cage and she's completely separate
3. put her in the covered dog run away from the coop that has a concrete floor and a 3x3 doghouse to put the nest (i'll have to predator-proof it first)

So yes, when and how should I separate her? Thanks!
