I heard they should come out clean and they did. Is it necessary to wash them. I thought I would wash just before I cook them. Someone said "you don't want that bacteria in your fridge ". Not sure I agree with that.

If they are just going to be out short term, you can leave them on the counter without washing them. You should definitely wash them before you eat them to prevent any possible bacteria, but it isn't a big issue. It's perfectly fine to have the eggs in your fridge.

I don't because you want to keep the "bloom" on the egg because it preserves it longer. An egg is porous and washing it actually can make it less sanitary by scrubbing the bacteria, poo or soap into the egg. Also when putting a washed egg in a fridge it can absorb the germs and smells from the fridge. if the bloom has been scrubbed off. If I do wash the egg I just use a damp sponge and lightly brush off any poo or steaks because I don't want to look at a nasty egg and don't want poo in my egg cartons or in my fridge.

You don’t want to wash them before storing because you will wash off the bloom. The bloom is an antibacterial layer the chicken puts on just before laying. I do wash the poopy ones and put them in a different part in the fridge and eat those first. I never sell eggs I’ve had to wash. I do wipe them off with a rag or papertowel just to get the bedding off. In Europe even commercial farms don’t wash their eggs and they aren’t refrigerated. I do put mine in the fridge because that’s what people expect. And if I didn’t, they would get squashed on my counter for sure.

one thing i know is i dont like poopy eggs lol, i try to figure out the problem if that happens, either the coop is too dirty and they have poopy feet or maybe they need to be wormed whatever, but a really soiled egg i personally discard .. my common method ive settled on when i grab eggs in the evening is i walk them up to the door and spray them off one at a time with the water hose to get rid of any small specks of dirt or feathers, i dont scrub them other than maybe a light wipe of a finger for a stuck speck or feather .. i set them on a towel to dry for a few minutes, then they go into the fridge ..

I don't wash eggs. I refrigerate, but they are OK on the counter for a while, and if they are to hatch, they stay on the counter til they go in the incubator. If I get a really poopy egg, I wipe or wash just before using. They will stay fresh longer if they are not washed, so the bloom is still on them.

I don't wash clean eggs no need to and like others said washes the 'bloom' off them. The bloom is a antibacterial coating the hen adds, if you pick up a just laid egg it's still wet, that's the bloom, dries pretty quick. It has it to keep the egg safe from bacteria cause a hen if they were going to set and hatch it wants it protected. Just a natural thing.
Dirty eggs I wash them, some don't just feed them back or dog food. We use all our eggs. Spring time or any time it rains lots of dirty eggs, lots of dirty eggs with ducks especially. When you wash dirty eggs, I gather them into a big coffee container and keep them in the fridge. Use hot water to wash them, cold water sucks the bacteria into the porous egg shell hot water keeps it out. Cold eggs, hot water then lay them on a towel to dry. Hot water will also show you pretty quick any cracked eggs expands them.

thank you for that info. I learn something new everyday. The bloom is Gods way of keeping it clean! I love it. I have read that they shouldn't be poopy that is a sign that the chicken has worms, which doesn't affect the egg it's just something that needs addressed.
