If you buy a laying hen does it effect her laying

I bought another hen to go with my poor luna. She was already laying (born January 26 2011). It was her first night, no egg this morning. She went from a flock of 100+ down to a flock of two.

Does it take them awhile to get into the groove of things?

yes the stress of the change will stop her laying for a couple of days.
