So, we just got 6 beautiful 4 day old chicks. My understanding is there is only a 10% chance for a rooster but we don't want that. If we end up with a rooster what do you do? Where does he go (other than dinner)? Thanks in advance for the help!!

You can find him a new home on Craigslist. We got our rooster (Frankenrooster) that way.

If you don't want to "process" the bird, someone in your area might not have any qualms about it.

That would be my first choice-roosters are, for the most part, AWESOME. However, if you live somewhere you can't keep one, try putting him on Craigs List for free-many people on here have given roosters away that way.

You can keep him to protect your flock or if you cant have roosters in your area just put him on Craigslist. I've not had any problem putting my roo's on CL.

I wanted two roosters. When I ended up with five, I gave the extra three away. Posted signs to find them homes.

Thanks! Our hen house is for 6 so I don't know how to keep a rooster if we do end up with one. I would just want to know he had a good home.

I had 2 EE/Russian Orloff roos I rehomed on Craig's List. I had multiple responses for them! I posted that I wanted $5. each, but I actually gave them to the couple that came for them as they drove over an hour to pick them up and they were a really nice couple who wanted them for the new EE blood in their flock and not for freezer camp.
