Why don't we each chip in a dollar, and start our own European Chicken Co-op? The people with the nicest places can keep the birds, those with the best luck can hatch the eggs, and we'll all share! I'd actually buy land for such a project if given the opportunity!

Wow, this topic got a ton of attention!
I just wanted to clarify a few things that I said in my original post, I was just a little excited and was not clear on a few things.

1. I plan to import bird LEGALLY. So no funny ideas all you readers out there

2. This is in part a business venture, so I want to import a breed/color variation that other people want. I showed my DH the prices that some birds bring on eggbid (re- coronation sussex), and he agreed that there could be some money to make. If nothing else, I hope to eventually come out even. This isn't one of those get rich quick ideas.

3. While we are visiting Holland this November, the breeder does not have to live in the Netherlands. But it would be a BIG bonus to meet the breeder and possibly see some stock before I spend thousands of dollars.

4. Breed suggestions: I have a few limitations on what I can/will take care of.
a. No bantam breeds (too many hawks around here)
b. No big floppy combs (good by Mediterranian group)
c. No feathered feet or crests (sorry Polish and silky people)

I have opened a new thread with a better title so people can follow my progress, and I can ask a few detailed questions about the importing process.
