if you had to pick just one breed.....?

if you had to pick just one breed of turkey and only one breed what would you pick? i have convinced hubby to get turkeys next year, but i am having a difficult time deciding what breed to get. their primary role would be for eating, but we would keep a small flock to lay eggs each year to hatch and eat and replace older ones, so temperament is important as well. if it matters at all, our family is 5 people now, but more kids are always a possibility right? lol

Sounds like you need a large breed. They are all wonderful, just pick a color.

If you want them to breed and live longer than 7-8 months, you'll have to get a heritage breed (not Broad breasted whites or broad breasted bronzes, which can't breed without artificial insemination).

I recommend Bourbon Reds mostly because they have supposedly the best flavor along with Midget Whites.
