I love all the answers! I figured I'd get many different ones and reasons, and that's what I was really looking for from everyone. Keep 'em comin'!

My primary concern is something that will be friendly, open, and fun to watch. It does get below freezing a few times in the fall/winter here, but not much. Mostly just in the 40's and wet. There are people here with all breeds I can think of and they don't have problems with even the Seramas until the temp gets in the 20's. We usually turn the coop light on when it's in the 30's. Of course, they'd be confined to the coop/run with too many predators about, so that's some protection from the cold right there.

Now all I have to do is find a breed with a QUIET rooster so my husband will consent
