I built the bator, I put eggs in it, realized that I shouldn't put multiple groups of eggs in the bator at different times, built a hatcher, put my first group of eggs in the hatcher on Sunday night, and I'll be darned, I came home from work today and there was a baby chick!!!

She's adorable... so tiny! She's yellow with a black spot on top of her head. One of the eggs out of my coop. I'm guessing that the buff orpington mated with one of the SLW? There's no feathers on her feet, so I don't think it was one of my light brahma eggs...

Today is only day 20, so she's a day early. How long do I give the other eggs in the group to hatch before I figure that they're not hatchable? I'm supposed to move the second batch of eggs into the hatcher in the next day or two, and I don't think there will be enough room for them and what's left of the first batch...

Thanks!

I think most of us wait to day 25. After that the eggs come out.

does the chick have a rose comb? The SLW is the only one in my flock that has a rose comb so I knew right away that it was a BO/SLW and mine also has a dot on the head.

Here SHE is -

Well, I am up to (2) chicks and a third one that has pipped - which will probably hatch sometime during the night. I'm hoping out of the 24 eggs that I have left in the incubator that ONE of them will hatch while I am home AND awake!!!

Corey NC - haven't checked the combs yet...

The second one hatched overnight last night... this one has feathers on the legs and is yellow, so I'm pretty sure it's a BO/light brahma mix. Both of the new chicks have been moved into the brooder, chirping quite loudly and driving my dogs and cats crazy!!!

The third one that pipped is also out of my coop, so I'm interested to see what comes out.

The Welsummer eggs should start hatching in the next couple days... they're on day 19 now.

The Americauna eggs will be moved into the hatcher on Monday...

Exciting times at my house!
