I have a battery hen that I have had for about 2 years, today I have noticed she is very puffed up and not as mobile as the other 2... her backside is crusty (i have cleaned most of it off) and she just has this aura of being unwell.. any suggestions?

need help before calling in a vet... how long do battery hens last?

thanks
Angel

just after reading the 'please read' here are more details..

she has been exibiting these symptoms for about 1/2 days
not sure how old she is but we got her from a battery farm (she was going for slaughter) 2 years ago
she doesnt seem to be interested in food
her poop from what i can see is crusty round her backside so not sure
I would like to treat myself if possible
if people need a photo let me know and i can take one
they are in a coop with straw but access to grass etc....
hope this helps more as i dont like to see them under the weather

But she's not hanging out in the nest box??? Just asking because broody hens puff up and don't move much at all..
Gosh, this could be almost anything...crop area is okay??? Have you checked for mites? Have you felt around her abdomen area for any bulges (egg bound issues). Try to eliminate some of these things so that we can help you narrow things down... Sorry your girl isn't doing well...

Gosh...I'm going to be no help, because thankfully so far I haven't had to deal with any illness/injuries. Since you say her crop feels "normal," I would do a search on "egg bound" first, that and "internal layer." I would feel around the abdomen area below her vent to check for any bulges there. So you might feel her sisters area first, then hers.
Poor thing all hunched up and puffed out like that...she definitely doesn't feel well.

I'm hoping someone with experience in illnesses will be able to help you...

I have a chicken that looks just like Belinda. She has been this way for about two months and we thought it was getting better and she is not doing well at all. She has green diarhea and definitely not well. I can't help you but I need help and advice as well. Maybe someone will be able to help us both. It is so sad to see her like this. She was our very first chicken and is 2 years old.
