I'll look twice the next time I turn the corner to my Silkie pen...

You are so nice to have helped that snake. I would have screamed like a ninny and called the cops or something.

I'm weak.

btw, we have rattlesnakes a plenty on the eastern side of the Cascades. They rattle in the bushes when you walk down by the creek.

You could have used water and dish soap to help get it out....
I have one under my house that came up under the stove to catch a mouse scared the daylights out of me.It had come up through the whole that the the original owners had made for the propane line.

It was stuck way beyond that point... I have no idea how it got itself that stuck in the first place, but its scales were sheared off in many places from it trying to get through and cut/bloody in a couple of spots. It may have swollen itself up from the struggle to get through to the point that it just couldn't move anymore.

I'm so glad you freed it! I had to rescue one that was in the middle of a circle of my cats once; at first I thought it was a diamondback because it was vibrating its tail in dry leaves.

My pet Calif. king snake slithered through the keyring on the lanyard around my neck once, and I really had to work to get her out. I'm very careful about that now when I hold her.

I am so sorry to all you snake lovers, but I would have KILLED it for sure. Walk for 1/4 of a mile with it around my arm that never would have happened. I would have rather given birth to twins. I let ladybugs go free and frogs, but snakes, spiders and mice are another story.

That's a pretty snake and funny that he got stuck. Glad you didn't have any chicks for him.
I like snakes. Had to down size a while back but have 13 left and one about to lay eggs.
We found a nice big rat snake in our garage last year curled up on top of the breeder mice tank. Hubby gave him a mouse and then we took him across the road to the cornfield.
A few days later we noticed the wild mouse problem in the garage and got some traps. Never caught any b/c the big guy came back so we put the traps back away.
He's already back this year. I caught him when my chicks were out there a few weeks ago....they got moved quickly. He got to stay b/c the mice are back. I took pics of him last year. It's the same big boy with his scars and the tip of his tail missing.

Okay you can smack me for laughing at you but I am actually laughing with you, as I've had two of these episodes myself, this spring.

The first one ( unidentified ) was in our Silkies "day-run" and couldn't wait to get away from there. I netted it and turned it loose by myself.

The second one was twice #1's size, a Black Rat Snake and I suspect that it had probably fallen out of a wild cherry tree that hangs out over our main run. It was desperately looking for a way out when I came upon it in the run. Tried netting it myself with no luck. 15 minutes later, Skip got home and 30 minutes later, between the two of us, it was set free. I just loved the look on Skip's face when I told him I needed help with some snake wranglin'.

Yes, I could have easily "popped a cap" in either snake as I have a .22 Deringer and a Glock Mini 9 mm, and know how to use them both, but they weren't after the chickens or the eggs and I'd rather have them around to go after the field mice.
